HOW TO CLEAN AND SANITIZE YOUR WOODEN CUTTING BOARD

 

How clean is your wooden cutting board? I say wooden because anything that’s made of wood absorbs easily. These types of cutting board easy hides viruses and bacteria in cracks and splits. This can be harmful and leads to food contamination. Oh wow! that’s horrible.

 

 

A regular wash with water and soap will only remove that which is visible to the eyes, but there’re other hidden viruses and bacteria that your naked eyes cannot see.

CLEANING YOUR WOODEN CUTTING BOARD

Cleaning our cutting boards is what we regularly do after using. We place it under a pipe and wash it with soap and water. This is pretty simple, a few rubs with a sponge or cloth and that is over. That is not really the case, Here’s how to properly wash your cutting board.

 

 

Using just warm water, rinse away the particles. Use white vinegar to pour onto the board, allow this to sit for 5 minutes. The vinegar contains acids that will break down and soften any hard food particle and also restoring its color.

 

 

LEMON AND COURSE SALT FOR SCRUBBING

 

 

You must be expecting to hear about using a sponge or a cloth to scrub. Nope, that will do you no good at this moment. These boards need to scrub in order to consider them washed and clean.

 

 

So let us get back to our process. Cut a lemon in two, sprinkle the salt on the cutting board then use the side of the lemon to scrub the cutting board. Salt is also acidic and is an excellent cleaner especially for scrubbing hard surfaces.

Brushing your wooden cutting board is mandatory if you want to get into the gouges and cracks. Use a stiff dishwashing brush or a new stiff bristle toothbrush to scrub the board. The brush will remove any hidden meats and vegetables in the splits and cracks.

 

 

Rinse the cutting board with warm water a second time. Next, using dish soap and a sponge, the sponge comes in here, in section three, Wipe the cutting board until you’re satisfied. Wash thoroughly under-tapped water for 3 minutes. Dry with a clean dishcloth or paper towel.

 

 

 

SANITIZING YOUR WOODEN CUTTING BOARD

 

 

Sanitizing is the process after cleaning. This is when you remove all bacteria from the cutting board. One simple way to do this is by using 3% Hydrogen peroxide. Lay the board flat on a clean surface then use a clean white cloth to wipe on the solution. Allow drying before using.
